NEU: 17,3 Zoll Touchpanel, das 3. Panel der neuen Generation

The new 17.3-inch HomeCockpit Touch Panel: more screen area, same flush-mounted box for the smart home

We are proud to present the third panel of the new generation. Between the 13.3" and 23.8" models, the 17.3" touch panel occupies the middle size of our new range with a narrow frame.

HomeCockpit panels run on Windows 11 and can execute any KNX visualization software. With an advantage that is immediately noticeable in practice: The 17.3" panel fits directly into the existing flush-mounted box of a 10.4" or 13.3" panel.

17.3 inches in the same box – how it works

The new 17.3" panel fits into the flush-mounted box of an existing 10.4" panel (classic 4:3 format) and also into a 13.3" flush-mounted box. When replacing, the wall opening remains unchanged – instead of a small 4:3 display, a significantly larger 16:9 panel is then installed in the same box.

This works because the housing is significantly narrower than in previous models due to a new architecture inside the new panel. The usable touch surface therefore grows considerably without the box or wall penetration needing to be touched.

For retrofits, this means specifically: no chiseling, no masonry work, no replastering. Everything that is already in the wall stays as it is.

In new construction, a dedicated flush-mounted box is also available for the 17.3" size: the flush-mounted box WB173V1 with dimensions 402 × 235 × 84 mm. When installed with this box, the panel's projection from the wall is only 13.5 mm.

Anyone who wants to integrate the panel completely flush with the wall can order the matching frame: the frame for flush mounting (Art. No. FR173V1, dimensions 431 × 264 × 14.5 mm). This allows the panel to sit flush with the plaster surface and appear less like an attached device and more like a component of the wall.

Three performance variants: Major, Excelsior, ExcelsiorPLUS

The 17.3" panel is available in three performance levels. Which variant is suitable depends on what will run on the panel later: simple KNX visualization, parallel applications with video streams, or a central user interface with multiple active modules simultaneously.

All three variants run under Windows 11 IoT Enterprise 24H2, are fanless, and are supplied with an external DIN rail power supply. There is an on/off switch on the device.

    Display, Touch, and Build Quality

For all three performance variants, the display and operating quality are identical. The 17.3" panel is designed for permanent installation in residential and commercial environments.

Full Optical Bonding means that the touch glass is bonded to the underlying display over the entire surface. There is no air gap between the glass and the LCD. In practice, this has several effects:

In combination with the projected-capacitive multi-touch, this results in the operating quality you know from a high-quality smartphone: multi-finger gestures are recognized precisely, swiping is fluid, a light touch is sufficient. Pressure sensors or strong tapping are not necessary.

Audio: Speakers and microphone included ex works

All three performance variants have two integrated speakers, each with 5 watts, as well as an integrated microphone. This means the panel is ready for voice output, door communication, IP video telephony, and music playback without additional hardware.

Those who use the panel as the main station for door communication or video conferencing have the option to include the Voice Performance Module (Art. No. BSTVOIV1) when ordering. The module is a hardware DSP that suppresses echo, feedback, and background noise in real-time. Listening and speaking quality correspond to what is known from professional conference rooms.

Optional: Camera and presence detector integrated ex works

In addition to the aforementioned Voice Performance Module, two other hardware modules are available for the 17.3" panel. Important: Modules are physically built into the panel and must be specified when ordering. Retrofitting is not planned.

Both modules are compatible with the 17.3" panel. This is different for the 13.3" panel: there, the more compact dimensions preclude installation.

    Connections and Interfaces

There are differences between the Major and the two Excelsior variants regarding interfaces.

    Major 17.3":

    Excelsior and ExcelsiorPLUS 17.3":

Two separate 2.5 Gigabit network interfaces are standard in both series. This is relevant for KNX systems where the panel should be accessible both in the home network and in a separate automation network.

Software Modules: Door Communication, TV, and More

In addition to the operating system, several software modules can be ordered with the 17.3" panel, covering typical use cases:

Software modules can either be ordered together or installed later via the central installation program.

When 17.3 inches is the right choice

If you want to replace an existing 4:3 panel, there is a clear answer: the box stays, the display area grows significantly.

If you are planning new construction, you face the question of which size fits where. 17.3 inches lies between two frequently chosen alternatives. Compared to 15" panels, the area grows noticeably: multi-room visualizations fit on the screen without scrolling, buttons become larger. Compared to 21.5" panels, the panel requires less wall space and integrates into normal living spaces without dominating.

Where the 17.3" panel typically works well:

    Availability and Configuration

The 17.3" panel is available immediately. Available in the three performance levels Major, Excelsior, and ExcelsiorPLUS. As of May 2026, the 17.3" panel will be offered exclusively as a black flush-mount version. Surface-mount and Gira kit variants are not available for the 17.3" size.

As with all HomeCockpit touch panels: additional modules such as the camera module, the presence detector, or the Voice Performance Module must be configured when ordering. Retrofitting is not possible. Software modules, on the other hand, can be installed later.

Configuration options can be found in the Touch Panel Configurator.

    Conclusion

The 17.3" panel makes it possible to replace an older 4:3 panel with significantly more screen area without touching the flush-mounted box. As part of the V8 generation, it features a narrower frame, a current processor (Intel Core Ultra 5 from Excelsior), and Windows 11 IoT Enterprise 24H2. At 17.3 inches, it's sized where many living spaces end up: large enough for comfortable operation, small enough not to dominate.

Frequently Asked Questions about the 17.3-inch Touch Panel

Which flush-mounted boxes does the 17.3" panel fit into?

The 17.3" panel fits into the flush-mounted box of a 10.4" panel (4:3 format) as well as into the 13.3" flush-mounted box. In both cases, the wall does not need to be chiseled. For new construction, the dedicated 17.3" flush-mounted box WB173V1 with dimensions 402 × 235 × 84 mm is available as an alternative.

What performance variants are available for the 17.3" panel?

The panel is available in three performance levels: Major (Intel Celeron J6412, 8 GB RAM, 240 GB SSD), Excelsior (Intel Core Ultra 5 125U, 16 GB RAM, 480 GB NVMe), and ExcelsiorPLUS (Intel Core Ultra 5 125U, 32 GB RAM, 960 GB NVMe). You can select the variant directly in the configurator.

Is the 17.3" panel also available as a surface-mount or Gira kit variant?

No. As of May 2026, the 17.3" panel is exclusively available as a black flush-mount version. Those who need surface-mount or a Gira kit should currently opt for other panel sizes.

Can I install the 17.3" panel flush with the wall?

Yes. With the optional frame for flush mounting (Art. No. FR173V1), the panel sits flush with the plaster surface, instead of protruding 13.5 mm from the wall.

Can the camera and presence detector be ordered with the 17.3" panel?

Yes. The 17.3" panel is compatible with the camera module, the presence detector, and the Voice Performance Module. All modules must be specified when ordering, as they are installed ex works.

What's different about the V8 generation?

The V8 generation has a narrower frame than previous HomeCockpit models, runs on Windows 11 IoT Enterprise 24H2, and uses the newer Intel Core Ultra 5 125U in Excelsior and ExcelsiorPLUS instead of the i5-1135G7. This results in a larger usable touch surface for the same or smaller installation size and higher processing power.
